Norm Nelson - HC
Coach Nelson has been a dedicated member of the Springfield School District since 1997. A proud Springfield High School graduate, he played football for the Cougars from 1989 to 1994 and was part of the freshman program as a 7th, 8th, and 9th grader. He continued his athletic career at Cheyney University, where he played football from 1995 to 1996. Coach Nelson began his coaching career at Springfield High School as a freshman football volunteer from 2002 to 2005 before serving as the Freshman Defensive Coordinator in 2006. He later became the Head Freshman Football Coach in 2018, a position he currently holds. In addition, he served as the Head Coach of ETR Unlimited Football from 2007 to 2018. Beyond football, Coach Nelson has made a significant impact across multiple sports programs. He has been the Head Boys Track Coach at ETR since 2006 after previously serving as an assistant coach from 2004 to 2006. He has also led the ETR Boys Basketball program as Head Coach since 2003. In his role at Springfield High School, he serves as the Student Accountability and Conflict Resolution Facilitator, where he works closely with students to promote leadership, responsibility, and positive decision making.
raheem stevenson
Coach Stevenson is a native of Philadelphia and a highly respected business and community leader with more than 20 years of experience in financial services and executive management. He previously served as Vice President and District Manager for the Philadelphia Region of Wells Fargo Bank N.A., holding leadership roles that included Financial Planner, Private Banker, and Financial Sales Leader. In 2009, he launched RNRS LLC, a franchise focused on telecommunications, utilities, banking, and consulting, and in 2019 he co founded CALL US CLEANING LLC, a commercial cleaning company serving the Delaware Valley. He also serves as a Senior Financial Empowerment Coach with Drexel University’s Dornsife School of Public Health, where he specializes in trauma informed financial literacy. A graduate of Virginia State University, Coach Stevenson was a varsity athlete who earned both academic and athletic honors. His passion for mentorship extends beyond the business world and onto the football field. He has served as a varsity football coach at John Bartram High School and as a freshman football coach at Springfield High School, investing in the growth and development of student athletes. Deeply committed to service, Coach Stevenson is an ordained deacon and ministry leader and serves as President of the Peoples Unified Resource Center, an organization focused on advancing educational and economic opportunities within the community. He has also volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Philadelphia. Coach Stevenson is a proud father of three, Nia, Renee, and Raheem II.
shawn cooley
Coach Cooley has been a valued member of the Freshman football staff since 2018, serving the past seven seasons as Defensive Coordinator while also coaching linebackers and running backs. With more than 30 years of coaching experience, he has worked at every level of the game, including youth programs such as SYC and Rose Tree, the high school level at Springfield, the collegiate level at Villanova, Drexel, and Cincinnati, and professional exposure through Philadelphia Eagles mini camps and OTAs.
A former Division III football player at Marietta College in Ohio, Coach Cooley brings both playing experience and decades of coaching knowledge to the program. In addition to football, he also coaches lacrosse at E.T. Richardson Middle School, continuing his commitment to developing student athletes across multiple sports.

jerry coia
Coach Coia is a graduate of Northeast High School, where he was a multi sport athlete competing in both football and track. As a sprinter, he ran in the prestigious Penn Relays and the Lincoln Invitational. He continued his athletic career at Temple University, where he played football and further developed his passion for the game. Beyond football, Coach Coia competed in unlimited and 6 to 12 softball for 28 years, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to athletics. His coaching journey includes seven years with the Rose Tree Colts, where he served as Offensive Coordinator before becoming Head Coach in 2019. He has also coached offense at St Mary’s, served as an assistant coach at Springton Lake Middle School before taking over as Head Coach for three seasons, and worked as the Freshman Offensive Coordinator at Carroll. Coach Coia views coaching as a privilege and opportunity to mentor young athletes both on and off the field.
